The above question is from the poetry lesson चित्रकाव्यम्, which means image poetry. Such lessons enhance the intellectual power and knowledge of children.

This verse is an example of अन्तरलाप. There are four questions, which are given in the verse and the answer of each of them is hidden in the question itself. This is the beauty of शब्दालड्लारThe answer to the question is obtained by combining or dropping a particular letter (in the question)
1)  The first question is Whom did Krishna kill?
By combining कं and सं, the answer is obtained – कंसं जघान कृष्णः। (Kansa)
2)  The second question is Which (part of) Ganga is coolly flowing?
By combining  का  and शीतलवाहिनी, we get the answer -काशीतलवाहिनी  गड्गा । (Ganga that flows at the base of Kashi).
3)  The third question is के दारपोषणरताः? Who takes care/ nourishes wife (family)?
By combing के and दारपोषणरताः, we obtain the answer- केदारपोषणरताः (Those who are engrossed in taking care of their fields and farms i.e. the farmers).
4)  The fourth question is Who are not affected by the cold?
By combining कं and बलवन्तं, the answer is obtained- कम्बलवन्तं न बाधते शीतम्। (One who has a blanket around him is not affected by the cold).

The above question is from the poetry lesson चित्रकाव्यम्, which means image poetry. Such lessons enhance the intellectual power and knowledge of children.

This verse is an example of अन्योक्तिa saying, that is said to someone else, but is targeted to someone else. It is also referred to as a taunt. This verse is चातकान्योक्तिin which the poet has addressed the chatak bird, but actually wants to advice a poor person.

Chatak is an imaginary bird that drinks only fresh rainwater directly from the clouds. It waits for the moisture laden clouds throughout the year to drink water. The poet warns the bird and says, “O friend Chatak! Listen for a moment with an attentive mind. There are many clouds in the sky, but not all are similar (rain giving). Some moisten the earth with rain while some merely thunder in vain. Do not speak pitiful words in front of every cloud you see.”

Here, the poet is actually intending to say this to a poor person. The poet says that every rich person is not charitable, so don’t beg for help in front of every rich person. There are only a few who are generous, ask for help to only those.

Thus, the poet has beautifully compared the black clouds (rain giving) to generous people and the clouds who do not rain and just thunder in vain to arrogant and selfish rich people.
